skills

My professional training in software engineering has ensured a good foundation in several areas of the information technology sector. The primary focus of my degree being large scale software development in a team environment has equipped me with the skills and confidence to carry out the implementation of several significant projects.

Sound programming skill set including knowledge and experience in the following programming technologies and languages.

Cold Fusion
Extensive experience researching, implementing and advising on Cold Fusion projects of various degrees of complexity and size. Recently I have undertaken the BrainBench (www.brainbench.com) ' Cold Fusion 4.5 programming' exam achieving a result higher than 95% of all previous respondents worldwide.
HTML/JavaScript/DHTML
Complementing my Cold Fusion web application development experience, I have learnt and utilised extensively the intricacies of several web related technologies.
SQL
Subjects studied at university were a solid preparation for industry proven employment of Structured Query Language.
RDBMS platforms used include SQL server, Oracle, MS Access, Visual FoxPro, MySQL and DBase.
C/C++
Studied both C and C++ subjects at a university level, completed several projects on both UNIX and windows platforms.
Delphi
Projects undertaken at university and professional level.
Java
Subjects and projects undertaken at university level.
ADA
Experience using ADA development language at university level.
experience

My industry experience, spanning two and half years, has focused primarily on web application development. Mostly using Cold Fusion to integrate and develop Internet enabled database based systems. Cold Fusion is currently one of the best technologies available to develop applications that are delivered via a HTTP based web server. It has allowed me to implement complicated, powerful and useful solutions in a timely, secure and robust fashion.

Intranet based utility systems:

Staff whiteboard, allowing company employees to register present status (In, Out, Sick, in a Meeting..) over a geographically distributed company structure.
Issue management system, to aid in tracking and correspondence of issues related to particular projects. A form of a discussion forum with specialisations being role based system privileges levels and priority settings for outstanding issues.
Role based user security management system, This useful utility provides for other cold fusion projects custom application security settings and user authentication/authorisation with administrator access to manage any number of users allowing a fine grained level of control.

Enterprise level systems:

Hewlett Packard Asset Management software, Typical of the majority of modern day web projects, this project integrated a legacy database using Cold Fusion to provide Internet functionality. The Hewlett Packard asset management department needed a tool with which their clients could securely access detailed reports and functions giving them more direct control of the asset management process. Client liaison, project quoting, specification, development and deployment were opportunities taken by myself on this project.
Proquest - Personal financial risk profiler, This system allows registered users (financial adviser firms and individuals) to take a variety of questionnaires pertaining to their attitude towards risk in financial situations. Importantly on this project I liaised with other web development companies to integrate ProQuest with their systems following a portal paradigm. This enabled ProQuest's dynamic functionality to be transparently accessible to other systems registered users.
ObjectMastery website, Part of the (previous) ObjectMastery website that gave a case study in comparisons between Internet enabling technologies such as Cold Fusion, ASP, CGI and Delphi was developed by myself.
Transact-Online, Online funds management software for clients of the Transact investment service offered by Integrafin. This system offers functionality similar to other investment sites, portfolio transaction reporting and valuations, investment transactions in unit trusts and shares. Includes a branding mechanism which can further customise the system with elements from investment firms identities. Security and reliability of site activity were of particular concern implementing this project.

career goals

Short term
Further development and introduction of several significant skills to my software development repertoire. This includes technologies such as WAP (or successor) projects, PKI implementation for fully secure personal transactions, shockwave and generator technologies.
Further experience and development of Object Oriented design and implementation skills, probably using Java.

Long term
Continuation of developing programming techniques and style.
Further my experience in project management and team building skills.
